Laura La France is a producer, director, editor and Super 8 cinematographer, living and working on Treaty 6 Territory in Edmonton, Alberta. Laura spent her formative years in a trailer park near Fort Saskatchewan and her teenage years on an acreage in Sturgeon County, and somewhere between the industrial trailer park and acreage farmland, the Alberta landscape was written into her bones and she has been exploring it in her art ever since.

With no formal education in the cinematic arts, Laura has made her way in the male-dominated, expensive and competitive world of film through active membership with the Film & Video Arts Society (FAVA), self-education and pushing through one ambitious project after the other. Laura works in a variety of styles and formats, with a specialty in Super 8 film production and editing. She is most interested in exploring the inner workings of interesting and alternative people; Western/prairie culture in Canada, and the tiny details that belong to a particular time and place. Laura's music video work has ranged from documentary-style live performances shot on Super 8 to a sexy soap opera ripoff shot on a DSLR with vaseline on the lens. Hit Laura with your ideas and she'll give you her 2 cents. If it sounds like a good time and a cool idea, she'll probably be down.
